TaskUs expands rapidly in Colombia with new Medellín facility

MEDELLÍN, COLOMBIA — Outsourcing firm TaskUs marked a significant milestone with the grand opening of its new facility in Medellín, Colombia.
Situated at the Ruta-N business incubator on the city’s north side, this expansion highlights TaskUs’s rapid growth and commitment to the Colombian market.
The firm initially entered Colombia by opening a facility in Cali during the pandemic, which quickly reached full capacity.
Luis Barreto discusses expansion strategy
In an interview with Finance Colombia, Luis Barreto, Divisional Vice President of TaskUs, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s success in the country.
“We’ve found tremendous success in Medellín,” Barreto stated. The new Medellín site boasts 400 seats, with plans to expand to 500.
TaskUs is already eyeing further expansion with a second location in Medellín and a potential third city by early next year.
TaskUs’s diverse clientele and service offerings
TaskUs serves a diverse range of industries from its Colombian operations, including fintech, retail, fashion, and food delivery apps.
“We currently have about 25 clients in Colombia across four different industries,” Barreto noted. The company emphasizes flexibility and diversity in its service offerings, providing everything from customer service to content moderation and back-office support.
Commitment to innovation and startups
Despite its global presence, TaskUs maintains a startup-like culture. Barreto highlighted the company’s commitment to partnering with startups and innovative tech firms.
“We love being able to work with startups to build their CX journey,” he said. This approach aligns with Medellín’s ambition to be the Silicon Valley of Latin America, fostering a vibrant tech scene supported by both public and private sectors.
Leveraging Colombian talent for growth
Barreto praised Colombia’s business climate and talent pool as key drivers of TaskUs’s success. “The Colombian talent, infrastructure, and political stability have been tremendous,” he remarked. With 90% of TaskUs’s operations in Colombia conducted in English, the company benefits from the country’s growing emphasis on bilingual education.
TaskUs’s strategic focus on Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities like Cali and Medellín allows it to tap into emerging talent pools while avoiding the saturation seen in larger cities like Bogotá. This approach not only supports TaskUs’s growth but also contributes to Colombia’s burgeoning outsourcing industry.
As TaskUs continues its expansion across Colombia, the company remains dedicated to fostering long-term partnerships with startups and leveraging local talent to deliver innovative solutions for its global clientele.
