TaskUs, GCash join forces to support Philippine coffee farmers

CEBU, PHILIPPINES — Business process outsourcing (BPO) firm TaskUs recently partnered with mobile payments service GCash to bolster the local coffee farming industry in the Philippines.
TaskUs Senior Vice President in Southeast Asia Dean Van Ormer expressed the company’s dedication to community support, stating, “This partnership with GCash is aligned with our core values and commitment to supporting the communities where we are present.
“Social responsibility is strongly embedded in our culture, and we encourage our teammates to make a difference in issues they care about,” he added.
This initiative is facilitated through GCash’s GForest, an interactive climate tech platform that encourages users to engage in reforestation and tree-planting activities by making digital transactions, thereby reducing their carbon footprint.
TaskUs’s collaboration with GCash extends beyond environmental conservation. It also includes purchasing beans directly from local women coffee farmers, thereby creating more communities and generating lasting positive impacts.
GCash Sustainability Head CJ Alegre highlighted the role of technology in driving social change, “GCash is an advocate of tech for good—not only are we empowering financial progress for all, but we are also using our platform in ways that can create significant positive social impact, from protecting the environment to creating sustained opportunities for our local farmers.”
“GForest is proof that innovative solutions can engage individuals and corporations to act for our planet and local communities.”
The initiative is set to help the Philippine coffee industry, which has long advocated for local development to meet the country’s growing demand for coffee.
Chit Juan, President of the Philippine Coffee Board, lauded the partnership, adding that coffee “has historically been an integral component of the Philippine economy.”
“Today, we see a huge opportunity for companies to support local coffee farmers. We laud the partnership between GCash and TaskUs as they leverage innovative platforms to grow coffee seedlings and boost the livelihood of local farmers.”
The partnership was inaugurated with a ceremonial tree-planting event, signifying the beginning of an initiative to plant 10,000 coffee seedlings in Cavite.
The actual planting of the coffee seedlings is scheduled to begin during the rainy season in the third or fourth quarter of 2024.
