Tata Communications completes $100M acquisition of Kaleyra

MUMBAI, INDIA — Tata Communications, a subsidiary of the Tata Group conglomerate, has completed its US$100 million acquisition of Kaleyra.

Kaleyra is a global cloud communications platform which had 2022 revenue of US$339 million.

With over 1,600 operator connections in 190+ countries, Kaleyra’s cloud platform manages billions of messages each month for companies in finance, e-commerce, healthcare, retail, and more.

The acquisition deal was first announced in June and has now closed after receiving approval from Kaleyra shareholders and regulators. Kaleyra and its subsidiaries are now wholly owned by Tata Communications.

Tata Communications CEO A.S. Lakshminarayanan said the combination of the two companies will “revolutionize how businesses engage with customers” through data-driven personalized interactions.

With the addition of Kaleyra’s cloud communications platform, Tata can now provide intelligent and hyper-personalized omnichannel interactions for customers.

The acquisition of Kaleyra comes despite Tata Communications recently reporting a 30% slump in quarterly profit due to higher expenses.

As a subsidiary, Tata Communications generated US$2.2 million in revenue in FY2022, contributing to the US$128-billion Tata Group conglomerate.

With operations in 190+ countries connecting 300 Fortune 500 companies, Tata Communications provides global communications and collaboration solutions that are a major part of the Tata Group’s worldwide business.

Tata Group is made up of 30 companies that operate across ten different verticals, including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Tata Chemicals, Tata Consumer Products, Titan, Tata Capital, Tata Power, and Indian Hotels.
