BPO firms spur Tatu City SEZ growth

TATU CITY, KENYA — Several Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) firms have set up operations within the Tatu City Special Economic Zone in Kenya, generating over 15,000 new jobs in 2023.
Global BPO leader CCI International recently moved 800 employees to its new 5,000-seat call center at Tatu City’s Eneo Building. From Tatu City, CCI provides customer support for international companies in the technology, telecommunications, and finance sectors.
“Tatu City provides an attractive and low-risk environment underpinned with first-class infrastructure, which is good for both our business and our people. It was a logical choice for the next phase of our Africa expansion,” said CCI Kenya Managing Director Rishi Jatania.
Over 75 companies have already set up or are developing facilities in Tatu City. Its Special Economic Zone status offers businesses a 10% corporate tax rate for 10 years and 15% for the next 10 years, compared to the standard 30% rate.
Additional benefits like zero-rated VAT, import duty waivers, and low withholding taxes create an extremely favorable environment.
Along with the jobs being created at Tatu City, the community itself is growing. Over 4,500 students attend schools there, and more than 3,000 homes at Kijani Ridge and Unity Homes are occupied. Recreational facilities like football pitches, basketball courts, and parks are also being developed.
Preston Mendenhall, Country Head at Rendeavour Kenya, the owner and developer of Tatu City, noted that the city’s SEZ status, first-class infrastructure, and environment “is attracting investors from all over the world, creating additional demand for our residential offerings, schools and retail amenities.”
“To support this rapid growth, we are hiring both locally and internationally with over 100 new roles in key areas such as Urban Planning & Design, Construction, Sales & Marketing, and Security,” Mendenhall added.
