TCS to drive ABB’s AI-driven IT modernization in extended 18-year pact

TCS to drive ABB's AI-driven IT modernization in extended 18-year pact

MUMBAI, INDIA, and ZURICH, SWITZERLAND — Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced a significant expansion of its long-term partnership with ABB, sealing a new multi-year contract to transform the industrial firm’s global hosting infrastructure.

In its press release, TCS notes this extended alliance will leverage TCS’s AI-powered frameworks to drive operational resilience, automation, and sustainability for ABB.

“TCS has been a trusted partner in ABB’s transformation journey for over 18 years. This latest milestone is not just a testament to our enduring collaboration, but a bold step towards reimagining ABB’s hosting landscape with a modular, future-ready architecture,” said Anupam Singhal, President of Manufacturing at TCS.

TCS, ABB strengthen global digital collaboration

TCS is an international company that provides IT services, consulting, and business solutions, with a workforce of more than 590,000, enabling it to establish long-term, adaptable collaborations with market leaders among its clients in 55 countries.

TCS previously ranked #8 in the OA500 2025, an objective index of the world’s top 500 outsourcing companies.

ABB has approximately 110,000 employees in multiple locations worldwide and utilizes its engineering capabilities to empower a more sustainable and resource-efficient future for its industrial clients.

Partnership deepens digital transformation strategy

This long-term collaboration is indicative of a trend in which companies are shifting towards long-term and strategic relationships with their IT suppliers, rather than short-term and simple contracts.

This is an 18-year partnership, characterized as a trusted partnership that has already delivered considerable benefits through the introduction of ERP implementation and cloud migration.

This new engagement is not a complete reset but rather a turbo, taking this and the already established foundation further to help ABB in its next wave of growth in the core electrification and automation business.

This model of extended collaboration provides stability and cumulative expertise, enabling the achievement of more ambitious digital goals.

Alec Joannou, Group Chief Information Officer (CIO) of ABB, specifically attributed the long-term partnership to the provision of more customer value.

“By [modernizing] our hosting operations, we’re creating a foundation for agility, faster innovation, and improved reliability across the business,” Joannou noted.

In the case of TCS, its long-term partnerships in Europe, where it has conducted business for over 45 years, provide a credible presence in undertaking large-scale, complex industrial transformations with companies.

Smarter infrastructure through AI and automation

TCS will implement the Future Hosting Model proposed by ABB within its own AI-driven framework, known as Zero Ops. The technology can help predict operations, lessen the need for human input, and provide real-time security, representing an important change in IT management from responding to issues after they happen to preventing them before they occur.

The tangible business outcomes of this transformation are increased agility, resilience, and sustainability. The model is engineered for faster service restoration and will provide the flexibility needed for ABB’s business integration needs across mergers, acquisitions, and carve-outs.

Additionally, TCS intends to use a cloud-first strategy and data-focused management to assist ABB in lowering its carbon emissions, connecting technology upgrades with environmental objectives.

“At the core of this engagement lies a shared vision: technology must serve a higher purpose – to empower people, enhance agility, and drive intelligent, responsible operations,” Singhal said.

“Together, we embark on a transformative journey to build a platform-driven core that will unlock unprecedented levels of efficiency, autonomy, and innovation for ABB’s global business.”
