TCS taps Airtel’s Kinshuk Gupta as Chief Communications Officer

MUMBAI, INDIA — Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has appointed former Bharti Airtel Communications Head Kinshuk Gupta as its Chief Communications Officer.

Gupta, who brings over two decades of experience, will oversee all internal, external, and corporate reputation programs for the IT services giant following his more than three-year tenure at the telecom provider.

TCS ranked #8 in the OA500 2025, an objective index of the world’s top 500 outsourcing companies.

TCS elevates comms to C-suite strategy

The use of a specialized Chief Communications Officer in a large consumer-facing organization underscores the strategic value of narrative and reputation management for international IT companies.

TCS is indicating that active communication is key to its survival in the market and to maintaining brand equity in a competitive digital environment.

The company enhances communications as one of the pillars of its corporate strategy by establishing a C-suite position to oversee this area of operations, alongside other functional units.

According to Afaqs!, his work is not only media relations but also internal communications, public relations, and investor relations, all of which are crucial to employee morale, client confidence, and investor relations.

The action shows that TCS aims to centrally and geographically coordinate its message to different stakeholders in a way that resonates with an integrated message that both sustains its business goals and avoids complex market perceptions.

Cross-industry communications leadership

The variety of industries in which he has worked as a leader in telecom (Airtel), in healthcare (GSK, Max Healthcare), and consulting (Edelman, IPAN) highlights the transferability of communications knowledge across industries.

This reflects the broader convergence of digital infrastructure, services, and consumer technology, as narrative competencies developed across fast-paced consumer worlds are finding application in enterprise-oriented companies.

The transition points to the shared challenges and priorities of large, listed entities in technology-driven markets, regardless of their specific end-user base.

At Airtel, Gupta managed communications for a publicly admired and valued consumer telecom provider; at TCS, he will apply that experience to a global IT consultancy serving corporate and government clients.

His background in managing listed-entity communication, leadership narratives, and complex stakeholder engagement at GSK and Airtel is directly applicable to TCS’s needs, suggesting that core communications principles are universal, even as the sectoral context evolves.

Restructured communications leadership

TCS’s creation of a global Chief Communications Officer role marks a significant centralization of its narrative strategy, moving from a regionally led communications model to a unified C-suite function.

Before Kinshuk Gupta’s appointment, communications were managed by regional heads such as Kritika Saxena in India and James Sciales in North America, with no single global overseer.

This new appointment introduces a dedicated global function alongside the existing office of Global Chief Marketing Officer Abhinav Kumar, who has held integrated marketing and communications leadership roles at TCS since 2011.

The parallel restructuring of regional communications, as indicated by Saxena’s move to Head of Marketing for India, leads to a deliberate separation and specialization of these disciplines.

Ultimately, these moves reflect a strategy to provide distinct, expert leadership for global reputation management while strengthening regional brand execution.
