Teleperformance loses spot in France’s CAC 40 Index to Euronext

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES — Teleperformance is set to exit France’s benchmark CAC 40 index, with Euronext stepping in as its replacement, highlighting the contrasting paths of the outsourcing company and the European exchange operator, Bloomberg reports.
Euronext announced the reshuffle, which takes effect on September 22, following the market closure on September 19.
Teleperformance and Euronext shifting fortune
The change reflects the departing fortunes of the two companies.
Teleperformance has seen its market value eroded as artificial intelligence reshapes the outsourcing landscape. Shares in the firm have dropped around 24% this year, weighed down by disappointing earnings and a revised financial outlook.
Businesses are increasingly turning to AI-driven solutions for customer engagement, reducing reliance on traditional call center services, a sector where Teleperformance has long held dominance.
Euronext, meanwhile, has been on a trajectory of expansion. Its stock has surged by 27% this year, buoyed by acquisitions such as Nasdaq’s Nordic power futures business and software provider Admincontrol.
The group, valued at approximately €14 billion (US$16.49 billion), has also submitted an offer to acquire the Athens Stock Exchange.
The consistent growth stands in contrast with the CAC 40’s overall 6% rise during the same period, highlighting Euronext’s progress.
Significance of France’s CAC 40 membership grows
Membership in the CAC 40 carries more than symbolic weight. Companies included in the index often benefit from strong demand from tracker funds and institutional investors who mirror its performance.
Being removed from the benchmark can amplify selling pressure on a company’s shares, adding further strain to Teleperformance as it faces sectoral headwinds.
The change marks the latest in a series of adjustments to the CAC 40, following December 2024’s replacement of Vivendi by Bureau Veritas after Vivendi’s restructuring.
For Teleperformance, the exit represents a symbolic blow at a time when it is grappling with fast-moving technological shifts and the need to redefine its value proposition in an AI-driven world.
Outsourcing faces industry-wide AI challenges
Teleperformance’s drop from the CAC 40 highlights the expansive challenges facing the outsourcing industry. As AI strengthens its position, firms can adapt by integrating technology with human expertise to remain competitive.
While Teleperformance’s hurdle is significant, it also indicates that the industry is undergoing a transition rather than a decline. Players that effectively incorporate AI into their models, without losing the human touch, will be strategically situated to thrive in this evolving landscape.
Teleperformance ranked #1 in the OA500 2025, an objective index of the world’s top 500 outsourcing companies.
