Thales to open nearshore cybersecurity center in Morocco
RABAT, MOROCCO — France-based tech firm Thales is set to invest more than 350 million dirhams (US$95.2 million) in establishing a nearshore cybersecurity center in Morocco.
During the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Thales revealed that this new facility would serve its international customers and create nearly 150 direct jobs for Moroccans.
Speaking on this occasion, Minister of Digital Transition and Administration Reform Ghita Mezzour said that Thales’ investment — as well as other foreign projects launched in the country since November 2021 — has opened more than 15,800 outsourcing jobs in the country.
Foreign investments in Morocco also generated an overall amount of 1.01 billion DH (US$274 million).
Outsourcing is a major scope of action of the Ministry, stated Mezzour, adding that it is a field at the heart of digital developments and represents an undeniable provider of jobs.
For his part, Thales Morocco CEO Hicham Alj said their new center would directly address Africa’s cybersecurity market and assist the group with its international projects.
