TP opens new call center in Cape Town, adding 3,500 BPO jobs

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA — Cape Town has secured another major investment in its booming business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, with global firm TP opening a new call center set to employ 3,500 staff.
The expansion signals growing international confidence in South Africa’s outsourcing hub, which already contributes ZAR 23 billion (US$1.2 billion) annually to the local economy.
Cape Town cements status as Africa’s top BPO hub
TP, one of the world’s largest BPO firms, has chosen Cape Town for its latest expansion, targeting 10,000 local hires by 2025. The city’s BPO sector already employs nearly 100,000 people, with TP alone accounting for 5,500 jobs in Cape Town.
Alderman James Vos credited CapeBPO, the city’s investment arm, for fostering skills development and attracting global players through strategic partnerships.
“As a city government, we proudly welcome companies such as TP to our shores. Together with our special purpose vehicle, CapeBPO, we have worked consistently to attract investments in this sector, while simultaneously growing the skills base to meet increased demand,” Vos said.
The Western Cape’s appeal lies in its skilled workforce, cost efficiency, and strong infrastructure, making it Africa’s leading offshore destination.
TP Group CEO and founder Daniel Julien’s visit underscores this confidence, with the firm scouting additional sites for further growth. Clayton Williams of CapeBPO noted that such investments reinforce the sector’s role in driving inclusive economic progress.
BPO sector powers job creation and economic growth
The BPO industry has become a critical employer for South Africa’s youth and women, with Cape Town at the forefront of this expansion.
TP Group’s new facility alone will create thousands of jobs, adding to the ZAR 23 billion the sector contributes to the local economy annually. The city’s collaboration with CapeBPO ensures a pipeline of trained operators, many of whom transition into full-time roles.
“We’ve done this by building more than just a business case—we’ve built an ecosystem for industry growth,” Vos said, highlighting Cape Town’s success in building a sustainable BPO ecosystem, attracting firms seeking reliable talent and operational efficiency.
With TP exploring further investments, the sector is poised for continued growth, solidifying Cape Town’s reputation as a global outsourcing leader. The expansion also aligns with broader efforts to reduce unemployment and stimulate economic diversification.
TP, formerly known as Teleperformance, recently overtook Accenture and soared to rank #1 in the OA500 2025, an objective index of the world’s top 500 outsourcing companies.
