Two-week ECQ displaced 1.5 million workers – DTI

The two-week return of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) from March 29 to April 11 in the Greater Manila area displaced 1.5 million workers, said the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
However, DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez said that of this number, 500,000 returned to work when the area shifted to modified ECQ. He added that most of the restaurant owners opted to remain closed until the end of the month, which is “a big contribution to the [job loss] because the restaurant industry has a total of 2 million workers..”
Further, Lopez added that once the number of COVID-10 cases and hospital utilization rates go down, the country “can shift to GCQ.”
