U.S. drives 62% of India’s IT outsourcing revenue: IBEF report

NEW DELHI, INDIA — The United States continues to lead India’s outsourcing sector, making up nearly two-thirds of the country’s IT outsourcing revenue, according to a report from the India Brand Equity Foundation.
Even with rising competition and changing global trends, the long-standing business ties between U.S. companies and Indian IT providers remain strong.
U.S. firms power India’s IT outsourcing market
For decades, India has been the go-to hub for outsourcing, offering skilled talent, cost savings, and the ability to scale quickly.
A Deloitte study found that industries ranging from finance and consumer goods to telecom and energy still view India as a top choice for setting up shared services.
English-speaking markets continue to drive a significant portion of this demand, with U.S. companies alone accounting for 62 percent of India’s IT outsourcing revenues, according to the India Brand Equity Foundation.
The United Kingdom came next with 17 percent, while Europe accounted for just 11 percent. Demand from the Asia-Pacific region was significantly lower, highlighting the deep ties between India’s outsourcing industry and Western economies.
Onshoring rises as U.S. emerges as outsourcing hub
Interestingly, Deloitte’s report also showed that the U.S. itself is becoming a key outsourcing destination, though in a different way. Onshoring, or outsourcing within the same country, is gaining traction as businesses seek both efficiency and greater control over their operations.
Although onshoring does not provide the same labor cost benefits as offshoring, it nevertheless affords organizations access to specialized services without the expenses associated with developing in-house teams.
The U.S. has become the second most favored destination for shared services across all industries, indicating a hybrid strategy where companies integrate offshore and onshore solutions.
Hybrid outsourcing reshapes global delivery models
The U.S.-India outsourcing corridor persistently influences the global IT services sector, establishing benchmarks for scale and proficiency. The increasing trend of onshoring indicates that outsourcing is evolving in response to changing circumstances.
This transition presents both opportunities and problems for the wider sector. Although India remains the preeminent force in offshore services, nations such as the U.S. are establishing their niche in domestic outsourcing.
This indicates a more diversified future for outsourcing. Rather than selecting between “offshore” and “onshore,” corporations are progressively concentrating on developing hybrid models that equilibrate cost, quality, and resilience. This trend may transform global outsourcing methods in the years to come.
