Uganda’s gov’t body highlights employment opportunities under RCIP

Uganda’s autonomous statutory body National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) is urging its young population to embrace employment opportunities under the Regional Communication Infrastructure Program (RCIP).
RCIP is a government initiative that presents extended connectivity to a number of innovation centers across the country.
NITA-U Executive Director Dr. Hatwib Mugasa said some of the opportunities are in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), e-services and software development.
“There are a number of electronic services that are offered by various MDAs offered to citizens (G2C), Government (G2G), and business community (G2B) that youth, especially in software development, can develop and easily integrate through this platform and could be consumed by Government, citizens, and business creating more employment opportunities and income for youth,” he stated.
NITA-U added that RCIP had supported a number of BPO companies in Uganda that continue to provide gateways for youth employment in the country. With its help, the local BPO service sector is poised to employ over 500,000 youth in the next five years.
Adding to the BPO Space at Statistics House, NITA-U is in the final stages of establishing a state-of-the-art IT and BPO Park in Lunyo Entebbe.
Mugasa explained that this project seeks to transfer knowledge based from multinationals to local IT entrepreneurs, host local incubation models, and create jobs.
