UK tech talent shortage reach record-high in October

Vacancies for IT professionals in England and Wales reached a record high of 13,000 in October, according to new research from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo) and labor market research firm Vacancysoft.
London reported the highest talent shortage with 56,800 vacant positions published so far, 105.6% year-on-year.
Conversely, the East of England is experiencing much slower growth in vacancies with a 53.6% y-o-y increase.
APSCo CEO Ann Swain said that IT professionals are in “increasingly high demand” due to the shift to remote or hybrid work models.
She added that a continued increase in IT positions is expected “to fill resourcing needs throughout 2022.”
Meanwhile, tech professionals also dominate the hiring landscape within the financial services sector, accounting for 33% of all vacancies with over 26,400 published this year so far.
Aside from the pandemic, Swain stated that the sector-wide skills shortage in the United Kingdom (UK) is due to the Great Resignation and Brexit.
