UK government to recruit 2,500 tech talents
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — The United Kingdom government has announced plans to recruit 2,500 tech professionals into various digital roles by June 2025 through apprenticeship and early talent programs.
The first phase of this recruitment drive is the newly launched digital apprenticeship program, which aims to bring 500 early career professionals into digital roles within the government during the current fiscal year.
These positions will focus on high-demand roles in data and technology, including cyber security technologists and software developers.
The remaining 2,000 opportunities will comprise 1,300 additional digital apprenticeships and 700 roles expanded from existing departmental digital programs like the software developer program.
“At a time when AI [artificial intelligence] and machine learning are at the top of the agenda for many boardrooms, the public sector has a fantastic opportunity to harness these technologies, enabling faster, more efficient public services,’ said Sheila Flavell CBE, COO of FDM Group, a British multinational information technology (IT) consulting company.
Moreover, the government is encouraging some of the UK’s top technical experts from various industries to work on critical challenges such as cyber security and emerging technologies.
This effort is being facilitated through a new digital secondments program scheme, which is now open for applications.
The move is expected to enhance the government’s digital capabilities and accelerate the adoption of cutting-edge technologies to provide more efficient public services.
