UKG to acquire Inova Payroll, expand global SMB HR reach

MASSACHUSETTS and TENNESSEE, UNITED STATES — UKG, a global AI platform for HR, payroll, and workforce management, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Inova Payroll, a United States provider of outsourced HR and payroll support for small- and mid-sized businesses (SMBs).
The strategic acquisition, expected to close in early 2026, is designed to combine UKG’s technological scale with Inova’s deep service expertise to dominate the competitive SMB market segment.
UKG expands HR footprint in SMB market
With this move, UKG gains direct access to over 4,000 SMB clients and a proven service model that has driven Inova’s recognition on the Inc. 5000 list eight times.
The move allows UKG to immediately leverage Inova’s established trust and deep understanding of the unique compliance and operational challenges faced by smaller employers, particularly those with frontline teams.
The decision to acquire a key partner rather than build an internal division from scratch underscores the value of established market credibility and a ready-made client base.
UKG President Arlen Shenkman stated, “Together, Inova and UKG will have an even greater impact on the SMB market segment, combining UKG’s technology and scale with Inova’s deep service expertise to deliver best-in-class frontline employee experiences that drive exceptional customer value.”
This is not merely a technology purchase but a strategic adoption of a successful go-to-market channel and its human-centric service philosophy, aimed at making UKG’s offerings more accessible and better served for SMBs.
Blending AI HR platform with high-touch payroll services
The move is structured to create a strategic partnership between UKG’s scalable, AI-driven technology and Inova’s hands-on, service-oriented delivery model for outsourced HR and payroll BPO.
Inova has built its reputation not just on software reselling but on enhancing HR operations through outsourced expertise and benefits support, helping SMBs manage tasks and compliance.
UKG’s acquisition aims to permanently fuse this high-touch service approach with its own product development and innovation engine, offering a more complete solution.
From the integration perspective, the benefits are bidirectional. “Our team and clients will benefit from direct access to enhanced product development, while UKG gains the advantage of our deep expertise in attracting and supporting small and mid-sized businesses,” said Joe Schweppe, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Inova Payroll.
