UK’s new parliamentary group sets sights on transforming employment

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — The United Kingdom (UK) recently introduced a new parliamentary group to focus on major labor market shifts, enhance labor standards, cultivate flexible, digital work environments, and expedite hiring processes.
Called Modernising Employment All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), it consists of parliamentarians, industry specialists, and peers.
Following the pandemic’s upheaval, the UK labor market grapples with high job vacancies and low unemployment. The APPG is concentrating on three areas to navigate these issues: job evolution, digital recruitment, and improvement of labor standards.
The APPG plans to make the UK the fastest nation for hiring globally, using technology and innovation. It intends to facilitate remote hiring, catering to the evolving work landscape’s demands.
The bipartisan group, comprising employment experts and ministers, recognizes the need to position the UK favorably in the global talent hunt, offering competitive alternatives to digital nomad locations worldwide.
Spearheading the APPG’s efforts is the Better Hiring Institute, a social enterprise promoting government and industry collaboration to effect policy changes. The institute has proactively advocated for changes in digital right-to-work and criminal record check policies.
Emma Hardy, Labour MP for Hull and APPG Chair, stressed the importance of modernizing hiring and employment to maximize good job opportunities for all.
“This is essential to unlocking the full potential of the UK and of places such as Hull that can be transformed as innovative work locations for our new age of working,” she added.
As the UK labor market evolves, the APPG commits to promoting innovation and ensuring inclusivity and fairness, thereby enhancing the country’s global labor market appeal. The group encourages HR professionals to actively participate in shaping this future.
