U.S. BPO company holds job fair in Guyana

LINDEN, GUYANA — The government of Guyana has recently partnered with Prochant, a U.S.-based business process outsourcing (BPO) company, to host a job fair in Linden.
This initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to support private sector growth and expand BPO centers across the nation.
Job fair offers training and employment
The job fair attracted over 600 attendees, including local residents and Prochant officials. The event provides training opportunities through Prochant Guyana and aims to employ 100 individuals by mid-2025.
This collaboration focuses on career paths in patient interactive services, referral interactive services, and accounts receivable services.
Senior Minister Dr. Ashni Singh emphasized the partnership’s significance, stating it is part of a broader government strategy to transform call centers into contact centers offering more value-added jobs.
Boosting Guyana’s BPO sector
Prochant has been operational for over 25 years with a global workforce exceeding 2,500 employees in the U.S. healthcare industry. The company’s expansion into Guyana is expected to create thousands of jobs over time.
Dr. Singh expressed optimism for further growth, highlighting completed renovations of call center facilities in Linden.
Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill urged participants to maximize training opportunities, underscoring that the initiative’s success depends on employee performance.
Government’s commitment to economic development
The government continues to support the BPO sector, as outlined in Dr. Singh’s 2024 Budget Speech.
Efforts include liberalizing telecommunications to reduce bandwidth costs and constructing new call center facilities in the regions of Essequibo and Berbice.
These initiatives aim to position Guyana as an attractive destination for BPO companies.
Future prospects for the BPO industry
Prochant’s Global Patient Contact Centre Manager, Timothy Beasley, expressed gratitude for governmental support and pledged to employ 100 people by mid-20253.
The government remains committed to fostering a conducive environment for BPO growth and aims to make Guyana a preferred location for outsourcing services.
This collaboration between Prochant and the government marks a significant step towards economic development and job creation in Guyana, reinforcing the country’s status as a top BPO destination in Latin America and the Caribbean.
