Vietnam’s IT outsourcing market nears $700Mn
HANOI, VIETNAM — Vietnam’s IT outsourcing sector is projected to generate $698 million in revenue this year, according to Statista.
With an annual growth rate of 16.38%, the market is expected to reach $880 million by 2028. This rapid expansion solidifies Vietnam’s position as a key global outsourcing hub, driven by its cost-effective and skilled workforce.
Nguyễn Thiện Nghĩa, deputy director of Vietnam’s Department of Information Technology and Communications Industry, highlighted the country’s competitive edge: “Vietnamese IT engineers’ salaries are only about one-tenth of the global average, yet their work quality is highly regarded.”
Global demand fuels Vietnam’s IT sector
As developed markets like Japan, the United States, and Europe face critical tech talent shortages, Vietnam has become a preferred outsourcing destination.
Leading tech companies such as FPT and CMC are addressing this global demand. FPT recently signed an agreement with Toshiba Information Systems to supply semiconductor engineers, while CMC dedicates 70% of its workforce to international markets.
Đặng Văn Tú, CTO of CMC Global, emphasized that outsourcing aligns with Vietnam’s strengths: “It’s challenging for companies to launch products that can break into international markets, as successful products remain rare. Outsourcing, therefore, is the suitable path for many Vietnamese companies today.”
Vietnam competes with global leaders in outsourcing
Vietnam consistently ranks among the top global outsourcing providers. The country competes with giants like India and China by leveraging its young workforce, competitive labor costs, and government-backed initiatives to foster innovation and digital transformation.
The Vietnamese government has introduced policies such as the National Digital Transformation Program to enhance its ICT infrastructure and workforce capabilities.
These efforts have attracted investments from global tech giants like Samsung, Intel, and Microsoft, further boosting Vietnam’s reputation as a technology hub.
Challenges ahead for Vietnam’s outsourcing market
Despite its success, experts warn of fierce competition from larger talent pools in India and China. Additionally, Vietnam must address challenges such as scaling its workforce to meet increasing international demand while maintaining quality standards.
As the global outsourcing market is forecasted to exceed $900 billion by 2027, Vietnam’s IT sector remains well-positioned for sustained growth. Its strong standing in software outsourcing not only highlights the capabilities of Vietnamese engineers but also opens doors for further innovation and skill development in the years ahead.
