Webtoon series to educate Filipinos on data privacy

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Social media giant Meta Philippines partnered with the National Privacy Commission (NPC) and the Child Rights Network (CRN) to create a webtoon series to educate young Filipinos on protecting their data and privacy online.
According to Meta PH Head for Public Policy Claire Amador, the webtoon series is part of the firm’s larger ongoing effort to develop tools and resources aimed at helping its users — especially young teens — connect online safely and responsibly.
The series includes three shows titled “Get Ready with Me” for online privacy, “The Cat in the Alley” for online interactions, and “From URL to IRL” for data protection.
Meta Asia Pacific Safety Policy Manager Malina Enlund added that they are translating the webtoon to other local languages to expand its distribution.
Meanwhile, the NPC stated that the webtoons fall under their Kabataang Digital Campaign, co-launched with CRN. The show will also be based on the perspectives of Filipino teenagers across socio-economic backgrounds from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
All episodes will be viewed or downloaded at the “Digital Tayo” website.
