Wipro opens new office in South Africa

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA & BENGALURU, INDIA — Outsourcing firm Wipro has announced opening a new office in Cape Town, signaling its commitment to the region’s clients and expansion in South Africa.
Anis Chenchah, Wipro’s CEO for the Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa (APMEA), hailed the inauguration as a significant milestone, asserting that the new office will bolster their efforts to cater to their growing client base and present unique opportunities to local talent.
Several notable figures graced the ceremony, including Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth in the City of Cape Town. Vos remarked on the successful business process outsourcing (BPO) sector in Cape Town, which employs over 70,000 individuals, and lauded Wipro’s contributions to job opportunities and digital-skill development.
In 2021, the international BPO market in Cape Town infused around R14 billion (US$752.5 million) into the city’s economy, bolstering its reputation as an appealing destination for tech and BPO firms.
“Wipro is developing talent and creating jobs with clients that will yield a lasting impact for our communities in South Africa. We appreciate this opportunity to expand our presence in the region and continue our momentum towards becoming the leading professional services business across the continent,” said Warren Zambelli, Managing Director of Wipro Limited Africa.
Africa remains one of the six focus regions in Wipro’s APMEA Strategic Market Unit. The company started operating in the continent in 2007 to help businesses and public sectors with their digital transformation efforts.
Earlier this year, the India-based firm experienced a surge in revenue of 11.2% to 231.9 billion rupees ($2.84 billion) for the quarter ending in March. The company’s net profit experienced a slight decline of 0.4%, while its operating margin dropped from 17% to 16.3% compared to the same period last year.
