Wipro pledges $1Bn for AI training
BENGALURU, INDIA — Global Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) provider Wipro will invest $1 billion over the next three years to train its 250,000 workforce in artificial intelligence (AI).
According to a statement, the company said this initiative will bring together 30,000 professionals from cloud, data analytics, consulting, and engineering teams to incorporate AI into all aspects of the company’s operations and client services.
The investment will also facilitate the integration of AI technology into Wipro’s product portfolio.
“With the emergence of generative AI, we expect a fundamental shift ahead for all industries,” explained Wipro CEO Thierry Delaporte.
Wipro also announced that it would expedite investments in innovative startups and launch an accelerator program for budding firms specializing in generative AI.
This decision comes amid a wider trend of businesses globally embracing generative AI technology, sparked by the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Other major players in India’s IT sector, such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Happiest Minds Technologies, are also investing heavily in AI capabilities.
