85% of U.S. workers fear job loss in 2024, survey finds

CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES — A new report finds 85% of workers worry about losing their jobs this year, largely due to concerns over advancing artificial intelligence (AI).
Career services company MyPerfectResume surveyed nearly 1,900 U.S. employees and discovered that 50% are somewhat concerned and 35% are definitely worried about job loss in 2024.
The top reason cited for job insecurity is AI growth, named by 78% of respondents. Global research and advisory firm Gartner also predicted a greater adoption of AI but claimed that it will augment rather than replace jobs by 2024.
Additional findings include:
- 69% think competition for jobs will intensify this year
- 45% predict fewer remote openings
- 67% believe the gig economy will continue expanding
- 87% expect more return-to-office policies than last year
- 69% believe more employees will quit if salaries are unsatisfactory
“The 2024 workplace landscape promises a dynamic blend of challenges and opportunities,” said Kellie Hanna, career expert at MyPerfectResume.
“To succeed, workers and employers alike must recognize that adaptability is the name of the game while striking a balance between addressing challenges and seizing opportunities will determine the winners,” she added.
Hanna added that more than just resilience, professionalism, and strategic vision are needed to navigate the complex terrain.
