Young UK workers fear AI job takeover: survey

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — A recent survey conducted by strategic skills provider Corndel shed light on the concerns of younger workers in the United Kingdom (UK) regarding the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on their jobs.
The survey found that 61% of Gen Z and Millennials believe AI will take at least 25% of their roles by 2023.
Additionally, 38% of respondents aged 18-34 expressed fear that AI will take at least 50% of their job within the next decade.
The survey also highlighted a significant lack of AI training among employees, with 82% reporting no prior training. This number rises to 96% among those over 55, indicating neglect of data skills in the UK workforce.
Corndel CEO and Co-founder James Kelly said, “Younger employees are already acknowledging the risks of being left behind by technology, which is shown in the large number of 18-34-year-olds who think their jobs are at risk from AI.”
The report further reveals that 92% of employees who work with data tasks believe a data skills gap within their organization exists.
Approximately one-third of data professionals (32%) reported a significant data skills gap. Professionals working with data also identified various risks and threats resulting from the data skills gap, including an increased risk of errors and misinterpretation, higher stress levels among employees, missed growth opportunities, and limited problem-solving capabilities.
Kelly added that continuous skills development programs and technology and data infrastructure investments could help organizations “empower their employees to leverage tech and data knowledgeably, confidently, and effectively to fuel transformative change and drive successful performance.”
