Zoom acquires AI startup Solvvy

Digital communications platform Zoom recently acquired conversational artificial intelligence (AI) startup Solvvy in a bid to augment the new Zoom Contact Center platform through the latter’s automated customer service technology.
Rapid growth during the pandemic enabled Zoom to expand its operations into the contact center market. The Zoom Contact Center aims to incorporate a self-service contact center that leverages Zoom’s video connections, as well as voice and text channels.
This acquisition will allow Zoom to access Solvvy’s AI to resolve basic questions for customers without the need for a human agent.
The acquisition is expected to close in a few months, with some of Solvvy’s team joining the conversation about AI development work at Zoom.
In a statement, Zoom President of Product and Engineering Velchamy Sankarlingam called Solvvy the “ideal platform to enhance our Zoom Contact Center offering.”
He explained that “Solvvy’s differentiated AI and machine learning technology, deeply talented team, and an easy-to-deploy solution will help accelerate our roadmap to creating a concierge-level experience for customers worldwide.”
For his part, Solvvy CEO Mahesh Ram stated that Zoom will further scale their global and the impact that they will leave on their clients.
Zoom’s acquisition of Solvvy comes on the heels of the company’s failed $14.7 billion bid to purchase Five9.
