Zoom calls employees back to the office

CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES — Despite rising to prominence as a lifeline for remote work during the pandemic, communications giant Zoom now requested some of its staff to return to the office.

Zoom had previously indicated that less than 2% of its workforce would be office-based. However, those living within 50 miles of a Zoom office are now asked to come in at least twice a week.

A Zoom spokesperson highlighted the potential benefits of a structured hybrid model, where close-proximity employees can interact with their teams in person on a semi-regular basis.

This decision follows a volatile period for Zoom, whose shares skyrocketed in 2020, only to encounter a slowdown in revenue growth the following year. This led to a significant decrease in stock value, stripping away $100 billion in market capitalization.

Despite nudging employees back to the office, Zoom remains committed to championing flexible work arrangements. A survey commissioned by the company revealed that 43% of workers see flexible work as a standard expectation, and a whopping 70% might consider changing jobs for a more adaptable schedule.

In response to these changing work dynamics, Zoom reassures the public, “We’ll continue to leverage the entire Zoom platform to keep our employees and dispersed teams connected and working efficiently.”
