46% of Filipinos remain optimistic about the economy
Around four in 10 Filipinos believe that the economy would improve in the next 12 months despite the 6.1% June inflation rate, according to a poll by Social Weather Stations (SWS).
In the latest SWS poll, 46% of adult Filipinos remain “economic optimists,” 28% are neutral, while six per cent believe that the country’s economy will worsen in the following months.
These figures resulted in a net optimism score of +40, which SWS classified as “excellent.”
Although the survey showed that most Filipinos are hoping for a better economic situation, economists said there would be another round of inflation in the country.
ING Manila Senior Economist Nicholas Mapa said that this second round would hit harder as manufacturers impose another price increase on many goods and services.
Meanwhile, in a separate survey, 44% of adult Filipinos believe their quality of life will improve in the next 12 months. Only four per cent believe that their quality of life will worsen in the following months.
