5M PH workers need reskilling
As much as five million Filipino workers need to be reskilled or re-trained between now and 2030 as 70% of jobs is expected to be lost to automation, said management consulting firm McKinsey & Company.
During the 13th International Innovation Summit, McKinsey Associate Partner Jon Canto stated that the majority of these are in the customer service or customer-facing industries.
Canto added that this may have “a very broad impact across our workforces.”
Jobs that are growing in the automation era may come in almost all industries, particularly in the healthcare and transportation sectors.
However, the report stated that this change can highlight several opportunities for STEM courses (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in the country.
In McKinsey’s estimate, about 375 to 400 million workers round the world will need to be reskilled and repurposed between now and 2030, affecting roughly 15% to 17% of the global workforce.
