66% of biz leaders increased their logistics outsourcing budget

About 66% of business leaders increased their logistics outsourcing budget in 2021, according to a survey from technology research and consulting company Gartner.
At the same time, 74% of survey respondents said that they are anticipating a budget increase over the next two years.
Gartner Supply Chain Vice President Analyst David Gonzalez said that “logistics outsourcing to third-party logistics providers (3PLs) has been on the rise for a while, and there is no indication that this will change anytime soon.”
However, he added that “logistics leaders are grappling with significant challenges that they can only address in collaboration with their 3PL partners.”
The survey, conducted from March to May 2021 with 298 supply chain professionals, showed that the top three logistics priorities of business owners include improving technology (37%), cost reduction (31%), and increased customer satisfaction (29%).
Nearly two-thirds of respondents stated that 3PL service providers helped them compete in the global market.
Gonzalez concluded that the 3PL community “has a lot to offer” while the shipper community “has a lot to gain” in a partnership especially through these challenging times.
