84% of Canadian firms expect staffing challenges over the next year

Around 84% of companies in Canada are expecting to face hiring challenges over the next year as the skills gap and competition for qualified applicants continue, according to a survey released by staffing company Express Employment Professionals.
The research, which was conducted with 505 participants, reported that 29% of respondents find it difficult to assess the candidates’ skills during the hiring process.
In addition, 28% said that there is a mismatch in the available talent pool, while 26% of the respondents noted that the increased competition makes it hard for them to find qualified staff for their companies.
Over the employers that stated they have open positions that they cannot fill, 48% are saying that job seekers lack relevant experience, 46% said that hard skills are the main reasons that they are struggling to find employees, 35% said that they simply do not have applicants, and 33% are saying that their applicants are lacking with soft skills needed for the roles.
