9 in 10 U.S. firms may offshore amid immigration barriers

WASHINGTON, D.C., UNITED STATES — At least 93% of companies in the United States anticipate turning to nearshoring or offshoring due to immigration restrictions, according to a survey by Envoy Global.
Envoy Global, a global immigration services provider, gathered insights from more than 500 Human Resources (HR) professionals specializing in corporate immigration and global mobility for firms across the U.S.
The survey found a high percentage of employers already benefitting from outsourcing. It says 86% of companies hired staff outside the U.S. for positions that were initially meant to be based in the country due to visa-related hurdles.
The surveyed companies shared they also relocated employees to Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia.
Nearshoring allows firms to outsource their work to neighboring nations, while offshoring entails employing or contracting services from distant nations to expand the talent pool.
