COLOMBO, SRI LANKA — Sri Lankan recruitment firm Formix says it can now act as the legal employer for client hires in more than 150 countries, a reach it attributes to an international partner network and one the company says makes it the first provider operating out of Sri Lanka to offer coverage at that scale.
According to Formix’s announcement, the service is available to new and existing clients immediately, and commercial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.
Recruitment and legal employment through one provider
An employer of record (EOR) becomes the legal employer on paper for a company’s overseas hire, handling payroll, tax filings, statutory benefits and labor law compliance in that country. It lets a business employ someone in a market where it holds no legal entity of its own.
Formix says the reach rests on a network of international partners rather than any single arrangement. Its partnership with Deel, a global payroll and EOR platform, is one part of that network, according to the announcement. Sourcing, hiring and compliant employment can now run through one point of contact rather than separate recruitment and employment vendors, the company said.
“Formix’s EOR service offers an additional advantage compared to traditional EOR providers. While many EOR providers primarily handle employment, payroll, and compliance, Formix integrates recruitment and talent acquisition into the EOR service,” Formix said in a statement to Outsource Accelerator.
“This is the first time a company based in Sri Lanka can offer EOR services across more than 150 countries. It’s a strong signal that Sri Lankan companies can build and deliver at a truly global standard, not just serve as a back-office location for others,” said Ramesh Jayanithu, founder and CEO of Formix.
Sri Lankan providers have trailed larger hubs
Formix cited industry watchers who say EOR services in Sri Lanka have historically lagged more developed outsourcing markets such as India and the Philippines, with most local providers limited to a handful of countries or dependent on third-party subcontracting.
The company said the wider footprint puts Sri Lanka on more equal footing with EOR providers based in larger regional hubs.
The service sits alongside Formix’s staffing and executive search work, which the company said serves clients across India, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, and clients already using the firm for recruitment will be able to extend those hires into EOR contracts without switching providers.
“This means companies hiring internationally do not have to go through the additional hassle of sourcing and finding suitable talent themselves. Formix can support the entire process—from identifying and recruiting the right candidates to managing them through our EOR solution—providing a more seamless and hassle-free international hiring experience,” the company said.
For buyers weighing offshore delivery locations, the test is whether other recruitment agencies in Sri Lanka build comparable reach. If they do, EOR coverage becomes a market-level advantage for the country rather than one firm’s. Until then, buyers evaluating the claim will need to verify coverage country by country.
