Formidium buys Ci Fund Services for a Luxembourg base in Europe

- Formidium completed its acquisition of Luxembourg’s Ci Fund Services after CSSF approval.
- Luxembourg, Europe’s largest fund domicile, holds €9.1 trillion ($10.1 trillion) in assets.
- Ci Fund Services, formerly Alpina Fund Management, was established in 1988.
- Formidium has more than $38 billion in assets under administration.
ILLINOIS, UNITED STATES — Formidium has acquired Ci Fund Services S.A., a Luxembourg-based provider of Private Label Fund solutions, giving the AI-native fund administrator a hub in Europe’s largest fund domicile.
The transaction was completed following approval by the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF). Formidium says the deal strengthens its ability to serve institutional clients and asset managers across Europe.
A ready-made platform for Europe
Formidium announced the deal in a press release on Oct. 20. Luxembourg is home to €9.1 trillion (about $10.1 trillion) in assets, the company said.
Ci Fund Services, formerly Alpina Fund Management S.A., was established in 1988. It offers fund structuring, administration, digitized management company (ManCo) services and distribution support to asset managers, family offices and institutional investors across Europe.
Formidium said the deal gives it an established Private Label Fund platform for managers entering Europe. It also adds local expertise in fund structuring, management, risk and compliance.
“Managers increasingly want access to European investors without the cost and complexity of building a fund platform from scratch,” said Nitin Somani, chief executive officer of Formidium.
“Ci Fund Services gives them that path, and our technology allows it to scale for institutional clients operating across borders,” he said.
Clients keep their service terms
Ci Fund Services’ team will integrate into Formidium’s global operations while continuing to support clients under existing service frameworks.
As the businesses integrate, its clients will gain access to Formidium’s AI solution, ARYA. They will also get Seamless for fund accounting and CommonSubDoc for investor onboarding.
“Over the years, we have built deep client relationships and an extensive network across the European fund industry,” said Michael Sanders, chief executive officer of Ci Fund Services.
He said joining Formidium strengthens its ability to support fund managers “with institutional-grade technology and the operational scale required in today’s market, while maintaining the personalized service our clients expect.”
From Illinois to Luxembourg
Since 2016, Formidium has built offices in the U.S., India, Canada, Singapore, the U.K., Hong Kong, Switzerland and now Luxembourg. It serves alternative investment funds across multiple asset classes, with more than $38 billion in assets under administration (AUA).
What it means for buyers
For asset managers that outsource fund administration, the deal pairs a Luxembourg Private Label Fund and ManCo platform with Formidium’s AI-native operating model.
