Northern Trust wins Dawson Partners fund-services deal

CHICAGO, UNITED STATES — Northern Trust has been selected to provide fund administration and asset servicing to Dawson Partners, a Toronto-based alternative asset manager with more than US$27 billion in assets under management (AUM).
According to a company press release, Dawson, which manages private market strategies from offices in Toronto, London, New York, and Hong Kong, sought a provider capable of handling multi-jurisdictional fund structures across the United States, Luxembourg, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Hong Kong. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Northern Trust’s platform targets complex private market mandates
Northern Trust (northerntrust.com), founded in 1889 and headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, custodies or administers US$20 trillion in assets globally and provides fund administration, custody, and investment operations outsourcing across complex strategies.
The mandate covers fund administration, global custody, and data solutions supporting Dawson’s alternative investment strategies across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), North America, and Asia-Pacific.
“Being selected by Dawson reflects their trust in our ability to service multi-jurisdictional alternative investment strategies. Our operating model, technology and service ethos align with the needs of Dawson Partners for global scale, expertise and client care in supporting sophisticated fund structures and the requirements of their investors,” said Clive Bellows, Co-President of Asset Servicing and President for EMEA at Northern Trust.
Dawson picks Northern Trust for private equity expertise
Dawson Partners focuses on structured solutions in private markets, managing more than US$27 billion across strategies that require complex fund administration across multiple jurisdictions and investor bases.
The firm’s selection of Northern Trust reflects growing demand among alternative asset managers for outsourced fund servicing partners capable of administering sophisticated investment structures at global scale. Northern Trust serves clients across 24 U.S. states, Washington D.C., Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
“Our reasons for appointing Northern Trust include their global coverage, experience in administering private equity funds, and sharp focus on client service,” said Marilia Bothamley, Partner and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Dawson Partners.
The mandate adds to Northern Trust’s growing portfolio of alternative asset manager clients globally, a segment where fund administration demand for multi-jurisdictional, multi-asset-class strategies has increased substantially.
For the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, the deal illustrates the continued growth of outsourced fund operations as alternative asset managers expand their global investor bases and require more sophisticated administrative infrastructure.
Fund services outsourcing has become a critical component of how private market managers scale operations across multiple jurisdictions without building equivalent administrative capacity in-house.
