DICT eyes 2,000 additional home-based outsourcing workers this year

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is aiming to deliver more than 2,000 rural impact sourcing (RIS) graduates this year and make them ready for home-based outsourcing work. RIS is a technical training program that promotes ICT-enabled jobs as a high priority economic activity in rural communities, which are not yet ready to host IT-BPM operations. At the 2nd Philippine Impact Sourcing Conference held in Cebu, DICT undersecretary Monchito Ibrahim said the new RIS graduates will be able to explore jobs available online and work from their homes. These jobs include graphic arts, content writing, company branding, and social media projects, among others. The DICT said the expected 2,000 RIS graduates this year will join the more than a million Filipinos already doing freelance jobs. The RIS program was introduced in 2016 with the aim of strengthening the movement of working from home in the countryside.
