Sitel trains visually impaired for BPO jobs

American business process outsourcing (BPO) firm Sitel has partnered with the Adaptive Technology for Rehabilitation, Integration, and Empowerment of the Visually Impaired (ATRIEV) to train visually impaired individuals to make them ready for BPO jobs. Participants will be offered scholarships in the Sitel Academy Call Center Training Program, which will give them basic contact center skills that will help them get jobs such as contact center agents, virtual assistants or software analysts. Sitel Asia Pacific chief operating officer Craig Reines said the company fully supports ATRIEV’s advocacy of using technology and IT-enabled programs to help the visually impaired become employable and productive. The partnership, he said, creates a more diverse community and gives more opportunities for people with disabilities. Sitel has been ramping up its corporate social responsibility programs and it recently joined the e-waste recycling program, Project 1 Phone, which aims at proper disposal and recycling of mobile phones and gadgets.
