Wipro to expand sales team to win more deals

Indian software services provider Wipro is seeking to hire bid and account managers to expand its sales team in Australia and the Middle East. The move aims to end the company’s years-long underperformance, strengthen its verticals, and help win larger traditional deals and small digital mandates. Wipro said in a statement that it is boosting its technical selling capabilities in areas such as cloud, digital, cybersecurity, and engineering services. It also aims to further enhance its sales capabilities across verticals in areas including the US, continental Europe, and the UK. Industry experts said that while increasing its sales force makes sense, Wipro needs to do much more to return to industry-matching growth. Peter Bendor-Samuel, CEO of IT consultancy Everest Research, said Wipro must strengthen its account management for it to regain its place among industry leaders. Bendor-Samuel said growth in existing accounts is the fastest and most cost-effective way to improve. In the latest financial year, Wipro lagged behind its rivals with growth of only 3.8%. Tata Consultancy posted double-digit growth, while Infosys recorded a 9% increase.
