Cognizant looks to hire 23,000 technical graduates across India

Cognizant is looking to recruit up to 23,000 graduates from India’s leading technology-focused higher education institutions next year. This will be in addition to its typical annual intake of new BPO staff. According to R Ramkumar, Cognizant India’s chairman and managing director, the firm has already made offers to almost 15,000 of the country’s soon-to-graduate engineers. In total, New Jersey-headquartered Cognizant now has 75,000 employees in India, up from 66,000 last year.
News of this latest round of recruitment by the digital outsourcing giant comes in the wake of an earlier announcement that, globally, some 10,000-12,000 of its mid-senior level associates would be dispensed with before the end of the year. The layoffs are said to be in line with the company’s plans to cut costs as it looks at new investments as a means of maintaining growth. While 5,000-7,000 roles will vanish entirely – with India expected to bear the bulk of the redundancies – a further 5,000 associates are to be reskilled and, subsequently, redeployed.
