US BPO exposed for unethical staff treatment

US-based BPO company Arise Virtual Solutions, which hires customer support agents for clients like Airbnb, Amazon, Apple, and eBay, has been exposed for unethical staff treatment.
In a piece by nonprofit newsroom ProPublica, Arise was revealed to ask applicants to pay for home office equipment and background checks, perform unpaid training and customer service work. The company is also reported to underpay employees (one employee had a $96.12 single paycheck).
This is in contrast with the offshore contact center industry, particularly the Philippines. The Philippine business process outsourcing (BPO) industry, for the past decades, is proud to say that they treat their staff better than the US agencies.
Philippine offices are known to provide full-time jobs, conducive working conditions, incentives and bonuses, and a safe environment to all employees.
