PH to lead SEA’s economic growth in 2022

The Philippines is expected to post the strongest economic rebound in Southeast Asia with 7.2% as the region learns to live with the COVID-19 pandemic, said market intelligence firm IHS Markit.
This growth figure is within the government’s seven to nine per cent target for 2022.
IHS Markit Asia-Pacific chief economist Rajiv Biswas said that while the region’s economy has been “significantly dampened” by the COVID-19 Delta variant, the 2022 outlook remains positive due to gradually improving economic conditions.
The Philippines will be followed by Vietnam at around 6.2%, Brunei at 5.8%, and Cambodia at 5.6%.
Meanwhile, Myanmar is forecasted to post the slowest economic growth at less than one percent amid ongoing political tensions in the country.
