New BPO facilities to be built in Cebu
More facilities for the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry will be built in Cebu City, Philippines as part of a mall expansion project.
The planned extension of SM City Cebu — targeted to begin in August 2022 — will build two towers that can be used as workplaces for the city’s “booming” BPO industry. The offices for the BPO towers will be from levels six to 20, with the bottom five levels set aside for parking.
The BPO towers will be constructed one after the other and are set to be completed before the end of 2023.
Aside from this, Project head Aris Angeles said that they will also include the development of a new parking area located in the mall’s north wing and a provincial branch of the National University (NU).
Though the exact cost of the project is not shared with the public, Angeles stated that they are “pouring billions of pesos into the development.”
The construction of the project is also expected to generate jobs for construction workers in the city.
On Wednesday, the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources conducted a public hearing for the issuance of an environmental compliance certificate (ECC) for the project.
SM is also in the middle of processing business permits and other government-mandated requirements.
