India to create 8M BPO jobs in the next two years

India’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry could generate up to eight million jobs in the next two years, said Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Speaking at the launch of the National Level Start-up Initiative, Vaishnaw said that the progress of the local start-up sector allows for the creation of more employment opportunities in the country.
At the same time, the electronics industry is expected to create about 2.5 to 3 million additional jobs by 2024.
Meanwhile, Vaishnaw also stated that India is working on becoming a “technological leader” supported by its vast talent pool, inventiveness, high computer literacy, and commitment to excellence.
“We have now an ecosystem that gives importance to merit and talent, that can power innovations and disruptions,” he said, adding that such a dispensation never existed before.
The minister added that India now has a “visible drive to proliferate frontier technologies in areas like telecom, electronics, railways, and other related areas to help India to emerge as a technology leader.”
“It’s a marvelous achievement which we are trying to emulate in other segments including railways, chemicals, power and semiconductor.”
Several research and development (R&D) efforts are currently underway in India to fasttrack technological excellence in various segments.
