Fiji’s trade minister bullish of BPO’s revenue-generating power

SUVA, FIJI — The newly-minted Minister for External Trade Cooperatives and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) Manoa Kamikamica believes that the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry has enormous potential to generate revenue for the country.
Citing Fiji’s BPO Council’s initial assessments, Kamikamica said that Australian firms earned more than US$30 billion from the outsourcing industry.
“Just imagine if we land at least three, five, or 10 per cent of that over the next five to 10 years. You create another big industry,” the minister highlighted.
Kamikamica also noted that they are planning to keep Fiji’s economy moving and growing, so the public could expect consistency of policy, collaboration, and consultation in the days ahead.
“I’d like to understand the level of foreign direct investment in Fiji and how much really is coming from offshore in the Fijian economy… That’s key because it then creates employment,” he added.
