Startup investment climate in Bengal picks up

WEST BENGAL, INDIA — The startup ecosystem in the region has shown signs of bullish growth, according to the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM).
India’s premier trade body for the information technology (IT) industry recently reported that Bengal has incubated 221 startup firms.
“The start-up ecosystem in the east, particularly West Bengal, is improving. A large number of IT and ITeS firms are going to start operations from the city,” NASSCOM chairman Sanjoy Chatterjee said.
Of the said 221 incubated startups, 79 were funded, including 49 with the second series. These startups include both technology and non-tech firms in the MSME and large enterprises space.
In addition, NASSCOM is also hosting the first Bengal Entrepreneurs Summit on January 19, where at least 400 startups in tech, IoT, blockchain, data, science, and fintech industries are expected to participate.
