More women to take top jobs in BPO sector
KINGSTON, JAMAICA — The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry could expect more women in leadership roles in the next ten years, said Global Services Association of Jamaica President Anand Biradar.
According to Biradar, out of 60,000 outsourcing employees in Jamaica, 70% are women.
“In senior management, it would be closer to 50-50. Executive management, I would say it’s 20% women, 80% men,” he added.
Despite what seems to be a large gap at the top, Biradar believes there will be a change in how these roles are proportioned in the next few years.
“Give five years, ten years, at the executive management level [and] it will reach 50-50,” he stated. “It is inevitable and definitely a welcome.”
Biradar also noted that the industry is aligned on women empowerment compared to other sectors because it employs many women.
“Consequently, we invest in women, so BPO industry, I wouldn’t be wrong if I say we lead women empowerment very strongly,” he pointed out.
Biradar’s comments came as the world observed International Women’s Day on Wednesday, March 8.
