Cyberattack to cost Capita $25Mn

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — Outsourcing giant Capita expects to lose between £15 million and £20 million (US$18.9 million to US$25.2 million) due to a recent cyberattack that leaked some of their customer, supplier, and employee data.
According to the firm, this amount would cover specialist professional fees, recovery and remediation costs, and investment to reinforce its cybersecurity defenses and strengthen IT security.
Capita added that they are “working closely with all appropriate regulatory authorities and with customers, suppliers, and colleagues to notify those affected and take any remaining necessary steps to address the incident.”
The outsourcing firm, a major contractor for the UK government, also revealed that investigations into the incident suggested that less than 0.1% of its server estate was accessed.
Capita declined to confirm what data was potentially accessed in the attack or how many staff, suppliers, and customers were affected.
