Healthcare sector to boost PH IT-BPM industry, says IBPAP

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Philippine healthcare industry is emerging as a “very bright spot” for the Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry, said industry body IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP).
With many registered nurses, the Philippines is the second-largest supplier of United States-registered nurses.
IBPAP President Jack Madrid expressed his wish for even more nurses, as they are in high demand domestically and internationally.
Recently, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) revealed that the participation of Philippine Healthcare Information Management Services (HIMS) companies in a trade and investment show resulted in initial sales of $72.9 million while generating potential direct investments of $13 million.
Meanwhile, Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Director General Tereso Panga expressed hopes to attract big-ticket investments and strategic industries to make the Philippines a leading industry player in HIMS and other related industries.
Apart from healthcare, Madrid said that the Philippine IT-BPM industry would continue to be driven by the contact center segment, especially for North American firms.
He also expressed optimism that the industry can achieve its targets of 1.7 million full-time employees and $35.9 billion in revenues this year.
“I think the targets at the beginning of the year are within reach,” the IBPAP chief stated.
The Philippine IT-BPM sector is projected to receive investments in various sectors, including animation and game development, cybersecurity, fintech, healthcare, internet service providers, IT solutions, and IT-shared services.
