Happiest Minds to hire 1,300 software engineers for AI expansion

BANGALORE, INDIA — In response to rising demand for tailored artificial intelligence (AI) experiences, Indian IT services company Happiest Minds Technologies is set to hire 1,300 software engineers to grow its AI business.
According to Happiest Minds Co-founder Joseph Anantharaju, the firm seeks to leverage AI to serve clients in the education and healthcare sectors.
This recruitment drive marks the firm’s largest-ever staffing expansion, as its current workforce stands at around 5,000 employees.
Anantharaju also revealed that Happiest Minds is exploring a partnership with the tech giant and OpenAI backer Microsoft to access ChatGPT more extensively to gain the upper hand in India’s vast IT industry.
Although AI makes up a small fraction of Happiest Minds’ revenue, it is one of the fastest-growing segments for the 12-year-old company.
The company is creating tools that operate on top of ChatGPT, customized to suit clients’ requirements, including safeguards to prevent sharing of proprietary data and intellectual property, a primary privacy concern for its customers.
Another tool developed by Happiest Minds can detect emotions in AI-generated podcast scripts and read text in a human-like manner.
“Clients want to make the best use of ChatGPT… We have started demonstrating these add-on capabilities to our clients,” Anantharaju stated.
Happiest Minds was co-founded by tech industry pioneer Ashok Soota who previously headed outsourcing companies Wipro and Mindtree. The firm demonstrated resilience amid a global tech industry slowdown as its shares saw a 20% rise from a low in March, outpacing Indian IT behemoths like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys.
