Canada welcomes 15K Indian tech workers
ONTARIO, CANADA — A total of 15,097 tech workers from India migrated to Canada between April 2022 and March 2023.
According to the Technology Councils of North America (TECNA) and Canada’s Tech Network (CTN), India contributed the most talent out of over 32,000 tech workers who migrated to Canada last year, followed by Nigeria and Brazil.
Canada’s inviting immigration policies and affordable labor are key factors behind this influx.
Remote work trends, accelerated by the pandemic, also prompt tech professionals to look beyond traditional hubs.
Mississauga and Montreal stand out as Canadian tech hotspots. While Mississauga boasts nearly 1,000 IT companies and 300,000 tech employees, Montreal’s tech scene has expanded by 31% since 2015.
Beyond Canada’s key tech hubs, lesser-known regions like Saskatchewan, Newfoundland, and Labrador have experienced a 16.3% yearly growth in their tech sectors.
TECNA and CTN’s report stated that the surge points to a hopeful and prosperous future for Canada’s tech workforce amidst a global talent shortage.
To lure even more talent, Canada is offering open work permits to H1-B visa holders from the United States, which especially benefits Indians, who make up about 75% of these visa holders.
