Cognizant lays off dozens of Apple contractors in Austin
TEXAS, UNITED STATES — IT outsourcing giant Cognizant recently announced plans to lay off 65 of its employees at Apple’s campus in North Austin.
According to a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice, the affected staff were providing consulting services at Apple’s Riata Vista Circle location, one of Austin’s largest employers.
The cuts come amid a broader restructuring at Cognizant aimed at boosting competitiveness. In May, the company unveiled plans to eliminate 3,500 jobs globally and exit over 11 million square feet of office space after revenue slowed.
According to the WARN Letter, the Austin layoffs will happen on December 8. Cognizant said it would help impacted workers find new internal roles before departure.
This follows Cognizant’s June notice to cut 56 Austin jobs at a Meta-leased office building. The company cited evolving client needs and contracts, without specifics.
The downsizing mirrors workforce reductions by major Austin tech employers like Dell and Meta facing macro headwinds. As a key player in IT services, Cognizant is restructuring to boost competitiveness despite slower growth.
Meanwhile, Cognizant also shared their downsizing efforts in India — removing 80,000 seats and 11 million square feet of office space in large cities — after shifting towards a hybrid work model.
