BPO companies express interest in Fiji, says minister
SUVA, FIJI — Communications Minister Manoa Kamikamica announced ongoing negotiations with three Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies looking to expand in Fiji.
According to the Minister, this is an excellent opportunity for young Fijians who are looking for employment.
“Particularly if you are out of school, not sure what you want to do, want to earn a bit of money and get a bit of work experience. You can do [BPO] part-time, you can work in the evenings for a couple of hours, and you can get some money while you study. So it’s a very good industry for the young people of Fiji.”
Kamikamica also stressed the BPO sector‘s emphasis on skill-building and knowledge exchange, aiming to prepare Fijians for the digital global market.
Fiji already hosts 25 outsourcing firms. Outsource Fiji’s Executive Director, Sagufta Janif, expressed optimism about the sector’s growth, linking it to job creation and economic enhancement.
Fiji’s BPO industry currently employs 8,000 locals, with projections to triple this number by 2025, reaching 25,000. This growth not only meets the increasing global demand for BPO services but also positions Fiji as an important player in the field.
